Project summary:
Given the limited footprint, the design demanded intelligent spatial planning to ensure the play environment remained rich, engaging, and multifunctional despite its compact scale. By layering uses, integrating vertical play elements, and selecting adaptable materials, the design delivers a dynamic and stimulating space that responds effectively to the constraints of an inner-city context.
The play journey unfolds progressively around the perimeter of the outdoor area, offering a diverse range of play types that increase in complexity and challenge. It begins with a social gathering space, transitioning into zones that encourage imaginative and performative play, followed by areas for gross motor activity and culminating in a more technical climbing experience with net-based equipment. This thoughtful gradation supports varied developmental needs and encourages children to move fluidly through the space.
