Project summary:
Urban Landscape Projects was engaged to transform a previously disused area at Bridge Road School in Camperdown. Bridge Road is a specialised education setting supporting K–6 students with additional social, emotional, and behavioural needs. The school offers an intensive, tailored program for children who may experience mental health challenges, mild autism, and complex behaviours, with a strong focus on building resilience, social skills, and positive engagement in learning. The outdoor environment therefore needed to be safe, supportive, and adaptable—providing a place where students could play, learn, and regulate in ways that met their individual needs.
The design and construction process was highly collaborative, involving teaching staff, carers, and the wider school community, as well as capturing student voice through a junior design workshop with the Student Representative Council. This process provided first-hand insight into how students currently used the space, what they enjoyed, and what changes would make it more inviting and functional.
