Campfire, Cave, Waterhole
A landscape-led outdoor learning environment inspired by David Thornburg’s three archetypal modes of learning: gathering for storytelling and shared instruction (Campfire), quiet reflection or independent research (Cave) and collaborating with peers (Watering Hole).
The environment is organised into distinct yet connected learning settings, including a formal outdoor classroom beneath a timber structure, informal social seating and collaborative gathering spaces, and quieter retreat areas designed for focused individual learning. Integrated planting, shade trees and natural materials create a calm, flexible environment that supports multiple styles of teaching, interaction and learning throughout the school day.
